Launch of Go Vacation Sri Lanka
The fabulous island of Sri Lanka currently presents one of the most exciting opportunities for dynamic tourism development in South Asia. (See note below).

In a joint venture with Sri Lanka’s Jetwing Travels a comprehensive new ground handling operation has been set up – Go Vacation Sri Lanka.

The new destination management company will initially serve the major REWE Touristic brands Meier’s Weltreisen and DERTOUR, when it launches full-scale operations in October 2010. Jetwing Travels has, to date, been handling a number of REWE clients. These, plus others currently handled by other local agencies are scheduled to transfer to Go Vacation Sri Lanka as their contracts expire.

With up to 20 qualified and experienced staff at this launch phase, the organisation will provide a full range of ground handling services, including airport handling, accommodation, guided group and FIT tour itineraries covering the whole island.

The company’s management predicts a substantial volume of business for the first operational year, with a massive potential for future growth from new, as well as existing markets, as international tour operators and their customers come to realise the incredible diversity of vacation opportunities offered in Sri Lanka.

With the addition of Go Vacation Sri Lanka to the existing operations of Go Vacation Thailand and Go Vacation Indonesia, the brand Go Vacation will be supported by more than 10 of their full-service local offices covering the most important tourist destinations of Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Statistics Note:
The dramatic rise in Sri Lanka tourism following the settlement of long-standing internal security issues, is demonstrated by recently issued statistics which show that, between July 2009 and July 2010, monthly visitor arrivals surged by up to 50%, with average tourist expenditure growing by 69%, year on year. Western Europe accounts for some 40% of the total, creating especially exciting opportunities for business growth from that market.

Southeast Asia sea cruising
Go Vacation wins AIDA – again
Sea cruises, covering some of the Orient’s most exotic destinations and idyllic tropical islands, is a rapidly growing sector of Southeast Asia’s dynamic tourism scene.

Among leading cruise operators, the German AIDA Cruises, a member of the Carnival Corporation & plc, launched services covering key points in the region for the October – April winter season 2009-10. Against intense competition, AIDA Cruises appointed Go Vacation Thailand as official handler for its shore operations and excursion programme in Thailand destinations.

During that first year, AIDA Cruises operated 13 ship-sailings, each with up to 1,200 passengers. And, for the coming winter season’s sailing schedule, AIDA has once again confirmed Go Vacation Thailand as its preferred ground-handling agent. From October 2010 to April 2011, AIDA plans to increase the frequency of its Southeast Asian sailings, to 14, using larger ships each having the capacity of up to 1,500 passengers.
